An idea I picked up from a GameFAQs board. Here are the rules:

-Make a change to the last word posted to turn it into a new English word.
-You may make one of the following changes at a time: change a letter of the word, add a letter to the word, remove a letter from the word, rearrange all of the letters of the word. (e.g., You can change "time" to "tame," "emit," or "times," but not to "emits" or "tames.")
-For the purposes of adding, removing, or changing letters, "qu" will be treated as one character.
-Proper nouns are allowed, but abbreviations and acronyms are not.
-Avoid repeating words whenever possible.
