About final fantasy 7...

Does anyone else here think that Final fantasy 7 was WAY overrated? I mean cmon, Main character is an angsting guy who stole his sword from a dying companion. Isnt that just... Wrong? Also sephiroth is most overrated FF villain ever. Fangirls will never stop talking bout him, or stop fighting abou which one is better, Kefka or sephiroth? -_____-

i do think its overrated just because it was the first 3d final fantasy. its a great game but lacks some things. and cloud had to steal the sword to kill sephiroth. if he didnt there would be no cloud.

I never really played it, and well, after reading up on it, i dont really understand what makes it so great, so yeah, i agree with you. its WAY over rated.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's WAY overrated, but I do agree it is a bit overrated.  Some of the older classics may be a bit better, but FF7 is still a good game.  There's a lot to get out of FF7, if you do more than just follow the main story. The reason people do the Sephiroth vs Kefka battles are because the two games are popular, and are in my opinion two of the best Final Fantasy games made.  Sephiroth may LOOK cool, but in terms of pure EVIL he's not the best.

The one thing I hate the most is how some people judge the game based on its popularity.  Some people hate the game just because it's popular which annoys me.

I didn't play FF7 but I really admired it, either by watching the advent children movie or some videos from the game, I became more eager about it. The story, the characters, the context all seemed to be well put and perfectly fitting what the fans were expecting. I don't think that the fans' appreciation of the game is exaggerated, it was just reflecting how good it was, the main character probably lied and gave misleading image about himself but that is a typical human behaviour, the flaws that we capture in each character and the process by which the character is evolving are the most captivating aspects, as well as the looks ^^ Tetsuya Nomura excelled on that one ... what I could consider as overrated is the fact that SE is still adapting the same game for further remakes and spin offs, I just wonder if they have already drained all the magic from that fantasy...

The actually FF7 game ITSELF wasn't overrated, all of the spinoffs and Advent Children were overrated. FF7 was a brilliant game nonetheless.

And Sephiroth isn't "overrated", he's just badass. He's not overrated so much as he is improbable, however, because his freaking sword is like 13 feet long, and so is his hair.

Well, I personally did find it to be an amazing game; after playing a whole bunch of the other Final Fantasy games I can't seem to be able to find one that quite compares to VII. Yes, the spinoffs were kind of an overkill to make money and whatnot, but I honestly do think VII deserves quite a bit more credit than most of the other games I've played.

And also, Cloud wasn't really angsty in the actual game. He was really angsty only in Advent Children in my opinion. In the actual game he was actually, at times, rather up beat and encouraging. And of course sarcastic but definitely not angsty.

Haha wellll..... I'm thinking of the parts, for example, when he was teaching Yuffie how to cope with her airsickness, and does that squatting thing that Zack loves to do so much. And when he went through Tifa's underwear drawer. And him quoting Barret, "There ain't no gettin' offa this train we on!"

Or near the end

         "The airship is too big for just the two of us."
         "Yeah, it's a little lonely without everyone."

(Cloud turns around to face her.)

Cloud
         "Don't worry. It'll be okay."

(He does his squat-thrusts.)

Cloud
         "I'll make a big enough ruckus for everyone."

(He stops and straightens his hair.)

Cloud
         "Besides, I'm the pilot."
         "No more flying around casually like before."
         "We won't have time to feel lonely."

I don't know if this is really "upbeat" but I think its enough to say he wasn't really "angsty" until Advent Children when they really emphasized his guilt over Aerith's death.

Yes Cloud was given the Buster Sword by Zack, (you will live for the both of us - you'll be my living legacy. My honour, my dreams, there yours now). If you have played Crisis Core, in my humble opinion, you will never regard Final Fantasy VII in the same light again. The game takes on a far deeper significance. I first played it in 1997, am now on the third rendering and playing it with the knowledge afforded by Crisis Core,  (eg what drove Sephiroth, a cool, caring, and sensitive, man, mad). To me, along with Crisis Core - which I have played four times (classic case of obsessive compulsive disorder!!) - it's the best.
