Many Final Fantasy games have their respective mini-games. Final Fantasy VII has the games at the Gold Saucer and in various places around Gaia. Final Fantasy IX has Tetra Master and that Chocobo Forest game. Final Fantasy X has Blitzball... and Final Fantasy VIII has Triple Triad.

Triple frickin' Triad. Remember it? Going around the globe, just trying to play cards with some people for fun.. Then suddenly, not even by choice, you get your game completely screwed over because you just so happen to take up the rules in the regions you play in! What is up with that? You could straight up set yourself up for failure. And then there's the Queen of Cards.. and don't even get me started on that broad. She just lives to make TT a living hell. Also see: Balamb Garden's special "Card Club".

To be honest with you, regarding Balamb's CC King:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Finding out it was Quistis was kind of a shock. And the fact that she just popped up in Squall's room while he was sleeping was pretty hilarious. I'm sure there's been many a fanfic about that.. If not, I should probably write one. wink

All that being said, I actually quite enjoyed the mini-game. It's my personal preference to not have Balamb's [Open] rule up and running, however. It took the fun out of the game for me. But at the same time, you have a higher chance of holding onto your cards! (Losing your Ifrit card was always a biznitch, wasn't it?)

What did you think of the mini-game?

I thought it was nice to wind down with a little TT! Unless, of course, you got screwed over with the [Direct] rule that'd drive you to drink. And that was the year I became an alcoholic. angel

Okay, okay. So am I the only person who liked that mini-game?! Cheesy

I love triple triad! I made it one of my goals as a teen to get all of the cards, but 120 hours later I ended up giving up.

I remember that I made a clone of TT out of movie tickets, the tickets at my local theater used to have about 6 random numbers (usually less than the number 5) and you had to write them on any corner of the ticket you wanted in pen, so you had to stick with it. For example, you get a ticket with the numbers 432011, I would place those numbers like this;

3X2
1X4
X1X

And whenever someone got that number 9 on their ticket, they had the holy grail...

Ohhh man. I spent countless hours reloading my game because I lost my Ifrit Smiley I usually only have a hard time against

I <3 the All rule, really helps me take all of the cards I need!
Random was also pretty rough because some cards you just couldn't get rid of unless you had a certain # of them! What's up with that >_>

And yes, card queen was evil.
Playing cards and getting all the uniques helps your party become unbeatable quite early... Definitely too strong, but at least there was some type of reward for those hours and hours of frustrating resets and reloads!

I usually had the most trouble against General Caraway, and against the either the mayor or headmaster of Galbadia in Fisherman's Horizon. Which cards gave you trouble?

I had to just quote your entire post. That is the most amazing thing ever. No, really. Cheesy Summertime TT~

Funny enough, I had the hardest time trying to get Angelo. Sad So many resets... Also, Jack from the CC gave me so much trouble. And.. well everyone else.
Also, I have to agree with you: the [All] rule was fantastic! Unless it was paired with [Random]. Besides that, it really was an easy way to get cards quickly! I used the Card Mod ability quite often on common cards. It saved me a few hours of the mini-game, albeit I'd be sitting there playing for an hour or so anyway. Grin

You don't know me!! ... Okay maybe I said that. Maybe I drew a sketch of her and placed it over a dart board. And maybe I played darts with a machete and a couple molotov cocktails that day. <_<

I loved Triple Triad! Sure, the changing of rules was pretty annoying but I found the game to be very addictive and fun. I always used to save before nearly every game just in case I lost a good card.  Grin It was great fun, I was playing it just recently, I'm trying to get all the cards.
