Final Fantasy Tactics is a tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation video game console. It was released in Japan in June 1997 and in the United States in January 1998. The game combines thematic elements of the Final Fantasy video game series with a game engine and battle system unlike those previously seen in the franchise. In contrast to other 32-bit era Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy Tactics uses a 3D, isometric, rotatable playing field, with bitmap sprite characters.[1]

The game is set in a fictional medieval-inspired kingdom called Ivalice, and follows Ramza Beoulve, a young cadet from a noble family who finds himself thrust into the middle of a military conflict known as The Lion War, where two noble factions are coveting the throne of the kingdom. As the story progresses, Ramza and his allies discover a sinister plot behind the war.[2]

A spin-off was created in 2003, called Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance (itself having a sequel called Final Fantasy Tactics A2), and in 2006, a stand-alone title called Final Fantasy XII was released for the Sony PlayStation 2. All three games take place in the fictional land of Ivalice. An enhanced remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, was also released in 2007 as part of Square Enix's new Ivalice Alliance project.[3] Overall, the game received positive reviews from gaming magazines and websites and has become a cult classic since its release.

I'm going to go with FFT: War of the Lions simply because it took the original, which was awesome, and improved on it. They added new jobs, improved and added CG, threw in new characters, a pile of extra missions and also fun multiplayer. I only wish it was released on a console as a PSN game or something... I have a short attention span when it comes to hand-held games.  Undecided

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I just cant get behind the Tactics series. I dont know why I dont enjoy it; I enjoy tower defense style games and other tactical and strategy games, but for some reason Tactics just never held my interest for more than an hour or 2. I should try FFT:tWotL,  I suppose, to see if it was just a bad experience with the first 2.

the lion war was one of my absolute favorite final fantasys, i really enjoyed the new graphics and characters, they improved greatly on the old game but still managed to retain the spark that made tactics so fun and addicting in the first plae, the only thing i dont like about the war of the lions is that all the dialogue got changed to some old english kinda stuff. that kinda made me cringe, plus the voice actors:P
