After the successful releases of Final Fantasy VII and VIII on the PlayStation Network, Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto has hinted that the the service may be getting Final Fantasy IX in the near future.

According to a report from andriasang.com, Hashimoto made the comment via the Square Enix Members twitter (which is in Japanese). After collecting community opinions regarding the game, Hashimoto said "Thanks to everyone for your opinions on FF IX. Regarding an FF IX download release, everyone is so passionate about it that I'll be proposing it at the next board meeting. Look forward to next week!"

Of the three main Final Fantasy entries on the PSone, FF IX sticks closest to the series' 8- and 16-bit heritage. Set in a classic fantasy world full of classic airships and mages, it is a departure from the more modernly styled FF VII and VIII. It's also the entry that has an awesome throwdown between my favorite summons, Bahamut and Alexander.

As Mr. Hashimoto suggests, I will look forward to next week to see if Square Enix has any announcements about the future of this chapter in the Final Fantasy series.( source:http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/26/final-fantasy-ix-coming-to-psn.aspx)

If it does come to PSN, would you buy it?

I made a Euro account on PSN back when the Heavy Rain demo came out and noticed that the European PSN has so many games that NA doesn't... especially random Disney related games if I recall.  Undecided

Final Fantasy IX hits PSN Store this Tuesday
Quote
We’d like to thank everyone who has patiently waited for the revival of one of the most anticipated classics in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy IX.

Returning to the elements of what makes true role-playing games appealing — characters, grand story, engaging battles and an impressive presentation — we’re proud to offer PS3 and PSP owners a chance to relive what RPG fans have long considered a nostalgic masterpiece.

The wait is almost over and we’re proud to announce that Final Fantasy IX is finally here, again!

Look for Final Fantasy IX to hit the US PSN Store next Tuesday, June 15th for $9.99. For more information on Final Fantasy IX, please visit the official site.
