On May 31st 2011 Xsplit broadcaster announced that when the final product is released that it will no longer be free and will start charging a subscription fee. What?! a subscription fee and not a flat rate? Yup read the article below describing their plans.
XSplit Pre-order Campaign
Date Posted: 31 May 2011
Today we launched a pre-order campaign which will allow existing XSplit Beta users to license XSplit at very favorable terms. There is no set date for the final release of XSplit Broadcaster. I suppose you can say, it's ready when it's cooked, but it’s no secret that the XSplit Team is hoping for a final release sometime during July.
We have gotten several requests for licensing of XSplit Broadcaster and even several users telling us that not knowing the price is going to prohibit them from using the product.
To provide transparency and favorable conditions to existing users, we have launched the pre-order campaign. Mostly we feel indebted to the early adopters and those currently using XSplit Broadcaster, however, the pre-sale offer will be available to everyone, both long-term and new subscribers, for a limited time period.
XSplit Broadcaster is based on a subscription license. In the future we may offer subscription terms monthly, quarterly, or annually but this is not yet determined. But with the pre-order campaign, we're giving users a chance to get a full 2-year subscription against a fraction of the cost for a one-year subscription when XSplit is launched.
Some may be disappointed that XSB will start costing money after the Beta program, but try to consider the efforts that have gone into creating the XSB product. It is one of our objectives to offer users an innovative full featured broadcasting solution and make it affordable too. We think that it’s fair to say that we have made it very affordable to acquire a licensed version of XSplit Broadcaster - Try to compare with products like Wirecast which cost 500-1000 USD.
Users will see much more innovation from us in the future and if the subscribtion license is maintained all new releases of the product will be part of the existing subscription license.
What do you think of this?
