So, last month 'My Hands' was announced as the FFXIII Theme song (in the US & EU, Japan has a different (better?!) theme sung by Sayuri Sugawara) If you haven't heard it, here you go:

So.. what do you think?!

Personally I'm not a huge fan... Leona Lewis isn't generally on my playlist, and the thing that bugs me about this song is it doesn't have a FF feel about it, its got a 'Leona' feel about it (...she has an awesome name though!!) I can't see how the lyrics can really go with the game, Its very very obvious that the song was not written for the game, and I assume, =must have been sourced separately.
Now, Obviously I don't know in what context it will be used in the game.. it may turn out to fit perfectly... but at the moment, I'm just not convinced.

Just for the record, this is the Japanese theme song

Now, unfortunately I'm not nearly good enough at languages to understand a single word, so I can't comment on the lyrics, However, it sounds like a FF song to me... more... beautiful (for want of a better word)

Thoughts?!

I don't like the song ( I also can't see how it will relate to the game) and I'm not a fan of the singer,I'm afraid. I'm a musician and I know I should be more broadminded but at one point I even thought I wouldn't be able to face the game depending on how often the song occured. At least we have some awesome new game music to look foreward to. Personally I think a song by Cascada would have been more suitable. Sad

I have played the track many times back to back with the japanese theme. The response has been good to bad. Personally I have seen Leona now singing on VH1 and she has class that brings the song up a notch regardless of its pedigree. No its not what we are used to but change can be fun.

I give a thumbs up after originally howling and shaking my fist to the sky ! Leona gets my vote.

I've got nothing against the song itself, though I'm still seriously wondering if it will really fit with the game.

Okay!
I've listened to both & I like both!
But they do have different feels to them... very different, completely even.
Now, i'd say that Sayuri Sugawara's "Kimi Ga Iru kara" song would probably be the safe way to go.
Whereas to have Leona Lewis' "My Hands"  would be more of a bold move on S-E's part.
There isn't much, if any music with the feel of "My Hands" in a FF game.
But because I feel that though, different, Leona Lewis' song has a strong & passionate feel about it, & because I'm willing to have some change & see how they implement the song into the game... My vote is for Miss Lewis!

On a side note, Sayuri Sugawara is super kawaii, though...!

For a trailer its a good song yea, but it will be played twice in the game. With the first time being in a romantic scene, don't quite think it will fit in there though Lips Sealed

Going to have to reserve final judgement until I see how it all plays together in-game, but at the moment I'm leaning against it. I agree with Deka that it's a bold move; perhaps too bold. The music is good, but it doesn't generate the same feel as other FF music for me.

Well it seems things aren't so bad at all. The love scene which first featured "Eternal Love" has been replaced by a version of "Serah's theme", so not by "My Hands" as I first assumed. I would still say Eternal Love sounds better there, but at least they replaced it with a fitting song. So as it looks now you'll only hear "My Hands" during the credits, where it can do little to know harm to the actual game wink

As an individual song and the choice for the FFXIII theme, I really like it. For me, I was satisfied with it playing in the ending and it did give a pretty different feeling to it in a good way compared to the Japanese ending (Japanese ending was good too btw ;P). As for lyrics, I agree that it doesn't fit fully 100% (Put on makeup, get in the shower, etc.), but does it have to fit word for word? Basically what Leona is saying in the song is how much she struggles going day to day without a certain someone and she tries not to reveal her feelings to others even though they're trying to see what's wrong with her. "My hands, no, they don't wanna understand. They just try to break whatever peace I may find." Looking at the song from Lightning's point of view, it's like she's saying "No, they don't want to know how I feel and I'm not going to let them know what's going through my head." And if any of you have played FFXIII, you know what I'm talking about. So looking at the whole song from Lightning's point of view and thinking more deeply into its lyrics, it actually makes sense.

Aaaaand~

That's how I feel about the song Grin

Just wanted to add this in on Leona's side. She did do a great job on the song.

Her words :

Quote
the protagonist struck a chord with her. Who would have thought she's been reading all those previews? Leona also says, "It's amazing. I just want to run around the lands all day." Thanks for that.

Final Fantasy XIII with Leona Lewis Playing

Background :

Quote
On November 13, 2009, it was announced that the song "My Hands," from British singer Leona Lewis' second album Echo, was chosen to replace Final Fantasy XIII's original theme song, "Kimi ga Iru kara," by Sayuri Sugawara for the game's North American and European release.[75]  Yoichi Wada has stated that it would have been better if the American branch of Square Enix had produced a theme song from scratch, but the lack of staff led to the decision of licencing an existing song instead.
