Friend of mine sent me this in an email and was asking about new games like what he did play.

Any ideas ?

I’m looking for suggestions in the adventure-type of game (sword & sorcery type stuff, in the D&D tradition). Back in the old days of text-based games, I enjoyed the original Adventure and the Zork series. In the Windows 3.1 world, I played (and enjoyed) the Ultima adventures from Origin systems (False Prophet, The Black Gate, Serpents Isle I & II, etc). I played a couple of the Kings Quest games (the original and KQ V), and some of the later Zork variants (but the later Zork games seemed to concentrate on the video aspects of the actors as characters in the story, as opposed to the actual story/plot, puzzles, and quests). In the Windows ’98 days, I really enjoyed the Might and Magic series from 3DO, and play several of those. They had the best mix of a large world, the master quest accomplished by completing smaller quests, etc. Anyway, what can you suggest that a reasonable mix of adventuring and combat? I don’t want a complete hack & slash game, but enough warrior encounters to keep a balance.

I really enjoyed the text based Materia Magica, my very first online mmropg. I also play gw which has no monthly subscription fee. The new D&D Online is going free to play in July, and its a hoot. And Lord of the Rings online also said somthing about going free to play in the future. *sigh* i have to say that RuneScape was fun but just not for me. Dragon Age Origions, Any Final Fantasy game, Star Ocean, ohh just anything with a cool looking dude with a sword on the cover should do in a pinch!  laugh

So there you go my imho. *bow*
