I have been ask a few times where the station originally came from. I am long time FFXI on-line player and after almost 4 years of listening to that sound track (or not) I came up with this radio idea for our linkshell (guild) called the RGoNots. RGoNots was a shortened version from the tale of the Greek adventurers Jason and the Argonauts. We do long hours of camping in that game and we are all Final Fantasy gamers so I started a Shoutcast radio for our private use. After awhile our station spread across a few of the 30 odd servers that make up the on-line community. We where recognized and welcomed into the podcast group at that point by two shows about FFXI called "
Pet Food Alpha" and "
Limit Break Radio". A lot of word of mouth also came through the website
Allakhazam.com where I have always kept a thread going about RGoNotSAYZ. From that small idea we have grown into full service radio with 3 streams and 1000's of listeners a month. All the material that is played is to promote the game and the composers. I try hard to identify and show all the people who make up our large community of fans of the whole series and FFXI.
The station itself is run just be me from my home in Florida via one server and another PC for working on the music & site. I receive some
donations at the site from the PayPal button that is located by the menu to cover cost. Paypal is the only widely used secure transactions I know for regular people and can takes credits cards too. The site and streams average about 150 dollars a month to run. All the music that is played is owned by me except for those done by composers/mixes that are distributed freely by them on the web. Some Cd's where donated by composers like
Piano Squall or individual players from FFXI at the start of the station. For the most part I purchase my music through
Play-Asia and there is link at the bottom of the radio page to help contribute to that. Every time you buy a CD through that link a percentage of the sales goes to my account where I can buy more music. I have some Google ads on the site for revenue. Since I refuse to allow any cheats/gold/gil sellers on those, they do not seem to show many things of interest or get clicked on naturally. The cost to me for the station over the year now has been small to the amount of great times I have had as DJ and website builder. I have met many great people from all over the world now and that you just cant compare to the dollars.
I will try to post the stat's each month here now from google analytic that I use to monitor the website pages. These numbers do not reflect the listeners who come straight in from Shoutcast or on their PSP players for the actual stream usage.
Thank you all for listening to the station and feel free to post here at the forums or
drop me a email anytime you have questions or problems.
